Emotional Statement of Indonesia at the United Nations, Respond to Attacks Upon Solomon Islands and Vanuatu human rights violations in Papua

On HUMAN RIGHTS, INTERNATIONAL, UN, WEST PAPUA Wednesday, June 22, 2016

This text responses Indonesian Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Council session on the "right to reply". Read the last paragraph of the reactions to emotional statements Indonesia respond to attacks Solomon Islands and Vanuatu today against human rights violations being carried Indonesia in West Papua.

Mr. President,

It is the right answer to respond to reports made by the delegation of the Solomon Islands, vanuatu and NGOs on the issue of Papua.

I reject the statements made by the delegation of Vanuatu and the Solomon Island today. Statements on behalf of the people of Papua unfortunate lack of understanding of the current state of the construction by Indonesia in Papua and West Papua.

Statement People who are less good faith and political groups were motivated to support separatism in Papua and West Papua. People who have been involved in public disorder, to incite terrorist attacks and armed civilians and security personnel.

The support is in clear violation and objectives of the United Nations charter and principles of international law in a relationship of mutual respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Let me explain, Indonesia, as a democratic state, committed to campaigning and protect human rights, including by taking steps to resolve cases of human rights violations in Papua. We are always open to dialogue on human rights issues. But we were the ones who deny politicim the issues. We really hate the way the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu have abused this council and the principle of universal promotion and protection of human rights by supporting the fierce hostility.

Mr. President,

President Widodo has been in private and government measures for take steps to resolve the cases of human rights violations of the past and those who have become victims of human rights violations.

In this case, the government has handled a number of cases of alleged human rights violations in Papua. To speed up the process of handling cases, Coordinating Minister for Political, legal and Security  (Mr. Luhut Binsar Panjaitan) has set up an integrated team that includes the National Commission on Human Rights of Indonesian.

List of Papua and West Papua enjoy wide-ranging autonomy, and democracy, because it is guaranteed by national laws. Regional and provincial governments are directly elected by the people of West Papua, and headed and managed by the Papuan. In addition, it should be noted that the budget per capita in the two provinces, including those of the highest in Indonesia.

Mr. President,

It should be noted here that the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are far from perfect in the implementation and protection of Human Rights. They still faces serious human rights problems. Corruption is rampant in all sectors of society and government. And human trafficking continues. Children faces continuous torture, and violence against women is unfortunately a daily routine. It will be for the improvement of their population if the government of the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu give priority attention to serious problems domestic hem.

Thanks.
